Cytogenetics and FISH department is a division of Molecular and Clinical Genomics of Triesta Sciences. Specializing in conventional karyotyping and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH), the department is dedicated to providing accurate and insightful genetic analyses for various hematological malignancies as well as solid tumors. In the realm of hematological malignancies, conventional karyotyping serves as a cornerstone for identifying the wide spectrum of chromosomal abnormalities. This technique involves analyzing a cell’s complete set of chromosomes, enabling us to detect numerical and structural alterations of diagnostic and prognostic significance.

The department of Cytogenetics and FISH is ably led by a competent team of Scientists and Technologists and offers conventional karyotyping for ruling out constitutional abnormalities in other genetic diseases and for couples who have recurrent pregnancy loss or repeated miscarriages while undergoing IVF.

Division excels in performing FISH tests, a powerful molecular cytogenetic method which allows for the visualization of specific genes or chromosomal regions, providing detailed information about genetic abnormalities at the microscopic level. The insights gained from our cytogenetic analyses contribute significantly to patient care, aiding clinicians in making informed decisions regarding treatment strategies and prognosis.

Most Frequently asked Tests

FAQ

What are some common applications of cytogenetic testing?

Cytogenetic testing is used for prenatal screening, diagnosing genetic disorders, understanding cancer genetics, and studying chromosomal abnormalities.

Can cytogenetic testing be done on all types of cells?

While commonly performed on blood cells, cytogenetic testing can be adapted for various tissues, including amniotic fluid, bone marrow, and solid tumors, depending on the diagnostic needs.

What is the significance of studying chromosomal aberrations in cancer?

Chromosomal aberrations in cancer cells can provide insights into the genetic basis of tumors, aiding in diagnosis, prognosis and the development of targeted therapies.
