- History of anticoagulant drug intake to be noted in the TRF provided at the time of test investigation. All other relevant details requested in the TRF must be given.
- Many drugs such as over-the-counter medications may alter coagulation assays. Eg. Aspirin.
- Excessive amount of green leafy vegetables (Spinach, broccoli, soya bean & chickpeas) will increase Vitamin K levels, which could interfere with the test results.
- Avoid strenuous exercise before the blood is drawn.
- In case of female patients, obstetric history to be provided (especially for tests like lupus anticoagulant – LAC).
- History of bleeding / bruising / ecchymosis / clots anywhere in the body to be mentioned.
- Sample may have to be recollected to adjust for the haematocrit.
