• Use only sterile, dry, wide mouthed, leak proof, screw capped plastic container about 250 ml capacity to collect urine for AFB (Acid fast bacilli).
• Early morning urine sample should be collected on three consecutive days or as per physician instructions.
• Wash the hands with soap and water.
• Clean the genitalia before collecting urine.
• Collect first early morning urine sample into the container. Minimum of 50ml – 200ml of urine sample has to be collected in the container.
• Screw the cap on container tightly and keep in leak proof cover.
• Collected sample should not be contaminated with water or stool particles.

Urine collected in unsterile / unlabelled containers or from urinals, bedpans, bags of catheterized patients.
